Letter Regarding the Suspension of the League Residency at Vyt

The League Residency at Vyt began as a progressive extension of the League’s educational legacy in the arts. As of October 1, 2016 the League’s residency program will be suspended. After seven years of fostering a creative environment for more than 450 artists-in-residence coming from all over the world, The League Residency at Vyt and the Vytlacil campus are embarking into new territory. While we are disappointed to share this news with you, we are excited to chart new paths to help fulfill the Art Students League of New York’s enduring mission to train great artists within a supportive society of people who embody the creative spirit.

Over the past six months, The Art Students League has engaged in an intensive analysis to ensure the League’s future is vibrant and sustainable. In a significant effort to improve the League’s fiscal health, the Board of Control has chosen to discontinue the residency program after September 2016. While we recognize that the residency has been meaningful for participating artists as well as an important part of our international outreach, the financial resources devoted to the program are unsustainable in its current model. We are looking to envision new and effective programs to be held on the Vytlacil campus while seeking greater donor support for activities at Vytlacil.

Thank you for your support and interest in The League Residency at Vyt over the years. We are happy that you have been a part of this chapter in the League’s story. If you wish to write a note about your experience at Vytlacil or The League Residency at Vyt, we encourage you to send any comments or questions to us at [email protected].

With our very best wishes,
The Staff at The League Residency at Vyt
