Entrance Requirements
There are none. Students are not required to have had any previous art experience. There is no entrance examination.

Registration
Registration is by the month, throughout the year. Students may enter any class at the Art Students League at any time, provided the class is not full. Waitlists are maintained for filled classes. Students must pay a yearly registration fee of $20, which is non-refundable and non-transferable. Class availability for both full- and part-time registration is restricted by the number of spaces available in any class at any one time and by instructor preferences.

New students must submit a completed and signed New Student Registration Form before registering for any class. Forms may be submitted via fax (212) 541-7024, e-mail or in-person at the League's first-floor office.

June/September Registration Dates and Lottery
Registration for classes starting in June begins Monday, May 3. Registration for classes starting in September begins Monday, August 9. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Part-time registration may be available for some classes only after a session has begun in either June or September. Some classes may already be filled at the beginning of registration with returning students. For those classes, students may, during the first week of registration, enter a lottery to fill any remaining class spots and to get on the waitlist for any subsequent openings. Lottery forms are available in the office during those periods, May 3 through 9 for summer and August 2 through 8 for the regular session. Waitlists are purged at the end of the regular session in May and at the end of the summer session in August. Selection from the lottery does not guarantee registration.

Tuition
Tuition for currently enrolled students is due by the first day of the following month. There will be no prorating of tuition for currently registered students in the event they are not present for any part of the same class the following month. First-time tuition will be prorated as of the date the student begins the class.

Class Withdrawal and Tuition Refunds
Tuition refunds will be made as of the date the office is notified of withdrawal. Notification of withdrawal may be made in person, by fax: (212) 541-7024 or by e-mail: info@artstudentsleague.org. Only seventy-five percent of the remaining balance of monthly tuition will be refunded from the day of notification. Refunds are by check or ASL credit only. Neither refunds nor credits are given for absences that occur in the course of the month.

Workshop Cancellation and Workshop Refund Policy
Workshops are subject to cancellation. Notice of workshop cancellation will be given no later than one week prior to workshop start date. The workshop fee refund schedule is as follows: 75% of full tuition for withdrawal before workshop start date; 75% of pro rated tuition for withdrawal within first two days of workshops; no refund for withdrawal after second day of workshop.

League Membership
All students at the Art Students League who have completed 210 hours of class time (three months in a class meeting five days a week, or the equivalent in time in part-time study, or at least one full year of study in one day per week classes) are eligible to become members of the Art Students League of New York. The same conditions for joining the League apply retroactively to those who have been students at the League but are no longer currently registered.

After entering their name in the book for prospective members in the League office, candidates must have one proposing member sign the book, and two subsequent members sign by the candidate's name as sponsors. If elected at the next membership meeting, candidates must then sign the League's Constitution and pay the annual dues of $35 within thirty days from the date of their election. After ten years (upon the eleventh payment of dues), League members become Life Members, who pay no further dues and remain members with all the privileges of membership.

All members have the right to vote and voice opinions at members' meetings, and also the right to vote for, and are eligible to run for the Board of Control. The late afternoon Life Sketch Classes (5 to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday) are free to League members. On Saturdays during the regular winter session there are morning and afternoon Life Classes open to all members. The fee for these classes is $8 for each half day. All League members receive Linea: The Journal of the Art Students League of New York, which appears three times a year containing articles on art and art education reflecting the views and opinions of instructors, members, and other contributors. All League Members receive notification of League activities, including lectures and meetings.

Children
Children eight to twelve years of age may register in the children's classes which are held on weekends. During the regular public school year, no student under the age of 18 may be registered at the League during normal school hours unless permission is obtained from the administration.
