Joseph Peller
Painting, Composition and Color from Life

Joseph Pelleräs work explores the haunting notions of isolation and ambivalence inherent in modern urban life. Mr. Peller enjoys experimenting with a wide range of pure and mixed techniques involving oils, pastels, various printmaking procedures, drawing and sculpture. These classes will focus on the study of painting composition using the figure as a point of departure to develop an understanding of painting and composition. Aspects of drawing, color relationships and paint handling in a variety of media will all be discussed.

Initially, Mr. Peller studied with Canadian artist A. K. Scott, a pupil of the distinguished American painters Charles W. Hawthorne and George Bellows. While studying at the School of Architecture at the University of Toronto, he worked with artists Kenneth Forbes and Cleve Horne. In New York, Mr. Peller studied with Ronald Sherr at the National Academy of Design and Thomas Fogarty Jr., Roberto De Lamonica and Hilary Holmes at the Art Students League, where he received a Revson Foundation Grant.

Mr. Peller has exhibited his paintings, works on paper and sculpture in solo and group exhibitions in New York, Canada and Europe. He has been recognized in nationally curated exhibitions, receiving comment in several publications including The New York Times, New York NewsDay and the Wall Street Journal. He is a recipient of the Len G. Everett Memorial Award, the Dr. David Soloway Memorial Award and the National Sculpture Society Award for Figurative Sculpture, and has taught at the New York Academy of Art. He is represented by ACA Galleries, New York City. Mr. Pelleräs work is held in public, corporate and private collections in the United States, Canada and Europe.
