Vytlacil hosts Exhibitions and Workshops as an integral part of the Art Students League of New York’s enduring mission to train artists in an environment where anyone who wishes to pursue an art education may realize their full potential. Join our Mailing List to hear about upcoming events at Vytlacil, and connect with Vyt on facebook!
Workshops at Vytlacil provide refreshing options in traditional approaches to art making, and enhance the League’s offerings in professional development. Taught in the League's traditional atelier method with a working artist teaching students at all levels in a hands-on environment. Vytlacil also offers unique seasonal workshops like the Hudson Valley Sketchbook with James McElhinney, and Frank O’Cain regularly visits the Vytlacil gardens for his Abstracting the Landscape workshop. Knox Martin, Deborah Winiarski, Timothy J. Clark and Dean Hartung have also used the inspiring Vytlacil gardens as their canvas for workshops.
For a full listing of UPCOMING workshops at Vyt, please see the League's main Workshops page.
||The Nude in Nature Series
With this exciting workshop series at Vytlacil, the Art Students League offers artists a rare opportunity to work with “The Nude in Nature.” Escape the stuffy grey studio to sketch, paint and draw the live model au naturel amidst open sky and lush landscape. Each of the four sessions may be taken independently, or register for a combination of workshops. Offered in the warmer months (May – September), a listing of “The Nude in Nature” workshops at Vyt may be found on our main Workshops page.
Sculpture: Forged Steel, Repoussé
Every Saturday at Vyt, the Sculpture: Forged Steel, Repoussé workshop with James Garvey offers students rigorous engagement with the basic elements of ancient sculpture: fire, hammer, and anvil. In an open-air setting, James guides students to create intuitive artwork that realizes an original form through expertise in forged metal.
Saturdays 10:00 am–1:00 pm. Monthly fee: $107 + $30 (materials fee)
Currently, James is working on a variety of private and public projects in the tri-state area, in addition to teaching at Vytlacil. To learn more about James and his art, please see his bio on his instructor page.
